Properties of thick cotton

This fabric with a weight of 490 g/m² and a width of 160 cm is a truly substantial base for work. Panama is a strong basket weave that gives the fabric resistance to deformation and stability of shape, while also allowing for easy cutting and sewing. Thanks to the combed finish, the fabric gains softness and better contact with the hands, which translates into comfort while working on a project or a test product. The lack of dye gives it a neutral, natural character and makes it easier to combine with other materials. It is an exceptionally durable base that works well in projects requiring strength and solid drape. Combed cotton also has a smooth and slightly shiny structure, which is why the distinct weave gains depth.

Pattern and color

Panama offers a clearly defined, delicate texture with a characteristic cross-embossed ribbing, which adds distinctive structure to the fabric without a dominating pattern. It is available in a light natural color of combed cotton, making it extremely versatile — easy to combine with other fabrics and colors, while also providing a subtle, natural effect, ideal for styling both raw and more refined projects.

Care for thick cotton

Composition: 100% cotton. Wash at 40°C on a delicate cycle, without bleach. Tumble dry with air drying or in a dryer set to low heat. Iron with steam, at a fairly high temperature, when the fabric is slightly damp. The lack of finishing makes the fabric easier to refresh and to match after washing; however, it is advisable to avoid sudden temperature changes and prolonged soaking in order to maintain dimensions and weave structure.

Uses for thick cotton with a strong weave

Thick, undyed Panama cotton is an excellent base for any projects requiring impressive durability and a massive character. It works well for jackets and vests with a raw, industrial style, heavier work trousers, bag-like tote bags, and projects that need a solid, undyed backdrop. Thanks to the 160 cm width, you can easily obtain large pieces without excessive joining, and the natural tone and Panama structure add elegance even in practical styling.
