Frequently Asked Questions

What is silk fabric?

Silk fabrics were produced already in ancient China. Silk, or more precisely silk yarn, is made from silkworm cocoons. For this reason, obtaining silk fabrics was neither easy nor cheap. For over two thousand years, China was a monopolist in silk production. Today, silk is the most sought-after textile material in the world. Thanks to its excellent properties, it is a luxury product.

Silk fabrics usually are characterized by a sheen; however, you can find mulberry silk in meters, crepes, georgettes, chiffons, and crepes. Silk is usually thin, limp, and airy, but there are also silks with high GSM in jacquard, decorative, or upholstery fabrics. Silk in the category: apparel fabrics are primarily blouse and dress fabrics, as well as wedding fabrics.

Silk material is mainly suitable for sewing light clothing such as: dresses, blouses, shirts. Our silk shop also offers varieties that will be suitable for making fashionable accessories recently (caps protecting hair, silk hair ties of the scrunchie type, sleep eye masks).

Washing silk should be carried out exceptionally gently to preserve the material’s properties. We recommend washing it by hand using mild detergents typical for silk. It is best to dry it flat and press it through a cotton cloth at low temperature.

You will find mulberry silk by the meter on our website in various colors, patterns, and grades. The most fashionable are branded silks.
