Here you will find fabrics for dresses for the spring/summer season

The first of our dress categories is fabrics and knit fabrics dedicated to summer looks, meaning lightweight dress fabrics. Here you will find all of our types of viscose: cupro, modal, rayon, viscose with a sheen, satin viscose, or viscose chiffon. Linen is also available and its blends, such as, for example, linen with silk or linen with viscose. Let’s not forget cotton fabrics, whose properties make them among the best fabrics for summer dresses. And of course, mention should be made of our most extensive range of silk for dresses, which includes over 300 patterns.

What materials are best for sewing a lightweight dress?

The best fabric for a lightweight dress is, above all, fabric made from natural fibres such as: cotton, linen, silk, or viscose. Properly selected material will not only make the look sit beautifully and look great, but it will also be functional. For example, for spring occasions you can choose Exclusive satin viscose, which can be used for a matte or a shiny finish, or the wonderful Brunello crepe polyviscose. If the dress is to have a more casual style, we recommend linen with viscose or matte viscose.

And can a lightweight dress be made from polyester fabric? Won’t such a dress be like a foil bag? No, it won’t. Our polyester types are not old-fashioned; this is not the kind of polyester with a bad reputation, whose very mention is enough to give you cold sweats that stick to the skin with your shirt ;). We don’t have such polyesters—we do have so-called polyester silks. These are delicate satins that drape beautifully, do not crease, and are wonderfully suited for shirring and everywhere the dress is meant to flow like water. In the smooth version, they are an excellent complement for chiffons and lace.

Types of dresses and matching fabrics and knit fabrics to them

It is very important to select the right material for our dress project for the spring/summer season. By using the properties of a given fabric, we can create unique dresses. Generally, dresses can be divided into several categories, for example by length: mini, midi, maxi (like skirts). You can also take the sleeve length into account, i.e.: with spaghetti straps, with a short sleeve, with a three-quarter sleeve, with a long sleeve (like blouses). And the most important division of dresses is by cut: that is, a dress with gores, a circle dress, a half-circle dress, a “mermaid tail” dress, an A-line dress, a ruffle dress, a chemise dress, a dress with a close-fitting cut, a simple dress with darts, a dress with French seams… and you can probably go on like shrimp in Foresta Gump ;).

So how do you choose the appropriate fabric or knit fabric for our dress cut? Specific features of our dress determine the choice of material—for example, a flowing mini dress sewn in a circle is best made with lightweight viscose, or chiffon with a natural lining, which will allow you to achieve this light, airy effect. In turn, a maxi dress with spaghetti straps and a close-fitting style is best sewn from a lightweight elastic knit fabric, so that our dress will be comfortable. If we want a lightweight dress with an elegant finish, a very fitting choice will be silk fabric, which is available in several varieties: satin silk with elastane is suitable for lightweight evening dresses, for example with French seams, but also with darts, or in an A-line dress. With silk fabric, even a chemise dress will look more elegant and luxurious. And a chemise dress can also be sewn from thin cotton denim, cupro viscose, lyocell, and of course from beautiful patterned fabrics that you will find on our website.

What to sew a vacation outfit from?

Vacation dresses follow their own rules. On the one hand, we want our dress for holidays to make us feel as if we were in the Maldives even in Chałupy, and on the other hand we want it to be made from natural fibres so it doesn’t crease, so it is breathable, and so it won’t get dirty from sunscreen cream ;). How to live? We have a few of our proven ways to maximize vacation dress experiences. For everyday beach wear, we recommend light linen. Linen dresses are breathable because linen has wonderful thermoregulating properties. Besides, linen creases in an elegant way— it simply doesn’t like simple smooth shapes; it is made for an irregular texture, and that is its personal charm. Batiste is also a great choice for such a dress. Thin cottons also have excellent thermoregulating properties. Meanwhile, for evening gatherings, clients very often choose silk: from silk chiffon to the classic crepe de chine. Silk drapes beautifully, is very pleasant against the body due to its elasticity, and does not crease as much.

In the latest trends: fabric for a lightweight dress

These are patterned oriental silks and viscose for romantic cuts—that is, statement maxi dresses with sewn-in godets, with ruffles—these are delicate lace trims on ruffle finishes. The upcoming spring/summer season also predicts delicate pin dots, classic stripes, and subtle panthers. The colours are calm and slightly smoky, from pastel pinks through all shades of mauve (reds, roses, and violets broken with grey with a drop of chocolate), to dark berry and burgundy shades. Chocolate browns are still in the spotlight.
