What is knit fabric?

Knit fabric is a fabric made by interlacing rows or columns into small stitches. The yarn fibers used in knit fabric are more elastic, which allows the material to stretch in all directions. Knit fabric has a soft and elastic structure. It can be knitted in two ways. Row stitches are used (e.g., jersey) or column stitches (e.g., tulle).

All of the following types of knit fabrics are available in our in-store knit fabric wholesale warehouse and in the online knitwear store.

Several types of knit fabrics:

1) JERSEY: Has a clearly defined right and left side. It can come in various thicknesses. It is used to make tracksuits, pajamas, T-shirts, and sweatshirts.

2) POLAR: A knit fabric made from polyester fibers. It is very warm. It is used to produce functional clothing, but also home accessories: e.g., blankets and pillows.

3) INTERLOCK: A double-sided knit fabric, smooth on both sides. Lightweight, stretchy, resilient, and soft. It stretches across. It keeps the garment shape—i.e., “it doesn’t distort.” It is used in women’s and children’s tailoring.

4) FROTTA: A “hairy” looped knit fabric, used mainly for producing towels and bathrobes. Made from natural cotton fibers.

5) RIB KNIT (HEMMING): A classic cotton or viscose finish for sweatshirts, sweaters, and tracksuit pants. Extremely elastic, which means that the cuffs of sleeves or pant legs do not stretch.

6) TRICOT (JERSEY KNIT): Can come in different thicknesses or knit densities. Used in the production of women’s and men’s clothing (T-shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, “tube” dresses, tracksuit pants).
