What is knit fabric?
Knit fabric is a knitted material that has been interlooped from rows or columns into small loops. The yarn fibers used in knit fabrics are more elastic, allowing the material to stretch in all directions. Knit fabric has a soft and elastic structure. It can be knitted in two ways. It utilizes row-wise (e.g., jersey) or column-wise (e.g., tulle) weaves.
All the following types of knit fabrics can be found at our physical knit fabric wholesale store and in our online knit fabric shop.
There are several types of knit fabrics:
1) JERSEY: It has a distinct right and wrong side. It can come in various thicknesses. It is used to make tracksuits, pajamas, T-shirts, and sweatshirts.
2) FLEECE: This knit fabric is made from polyester fibers. It is very warm. Used for making functional clothing, but also home accessories: e.g., blankets and pillows.
3) INTERLOCK: This is a double-sided, smooth knit fabric on both sides. Lightweight, stretchable, resilient, and soft. It stretches widthwise. Maintains the shape of the clothing—in other words, "it does not bulge out". It is used in women's and children's tailoring.
4) TERRY: This is a "fuzzy"-looped knit fabric, mainly used for making towels and bathrobes. Made from natural cotton fibers.
5) RIB: Classic, cotton or viscose finish for sweatshirts, sweaters, and sweatpants. Extremely elastic which ensures that the ends of sleeves or pants do not stretch out.
6) TRICOT: It can come in various thicknesses or weave densities. Used in the production of women’s and men’s clothing (T-shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, "tube" dresses, sweatpants).
Importantly, we sell knit fabrics by the meter and in wholesale quantities.
